Ryan Reynolds’ Bodybuilding Workout Routine & Diet

Note: If you’d prefer to read an article instead of watching a video, there is a transcription below for your convenience. 🙂

  • Introduction
  • Reynolds’ Bodybuilding Beginning
  • Developing the Habit
  • Accountability, Fun, and Sleep
  • Conclusion

Introduction

Yo, what’s up guys? This is David Hoang coming at you from supplementsuperhero.com, the coolest website on Planet Earth. Just kidding. Not really. Maybe. I don’t know.

But, anyways, in this video I’m going to be sharing with you guys some Ryan Reynolds bodybuilding tips. Okay.

If you’re watching this video, you probably already know who Ryan Reynolds is.

But if you don’t already know who Ryan Reynolds is, he’s the dude that starred as Deadpool in the recent Deadpool movie, and he’s going to be starring in the next Deadpool movie that comes out.

Also, in some of the X-Men movies and Wolverine, I think Wolverine Origins, you see he actually plays Deadpool in the X-Men universe, as well. It’s pretty interesting.

Reynolds’ Bodybuilding Beginning

But, anyways, Ryan Reynolds has, for the most part, what’s interesting about him is that he’s played in various kind of action movies and superhero roles throughout the last several years.

And he’s for the most part kept in really, really good shape for the past 15 years or so.

His journey, basically, started, I don’t even know, but it was over a decade ago, over 10 years ago, when he starred in Blade Trinity, I believe.

They basically said, “Hey, you’ve got to pack on 10 pounds of muscle.” So, Ryan Reynolds worked really, really hard for that. What did he do? He got on a 3,200 calorie-a-day diet.

He would work out for six days a week, consistently. He did that for three months straight, grinded it out, and, basically, by the end of that period, by about the three-month period, he had packed on about 25 pounds of muscle. Got really ripped.

I think, at least from some of the sources that I learned from, he didn’t do much cardio at all. He, basically, hit the gym hard, lifted some heavy weights and just really, really worked it. Lots of long days he put in.

Developing the Habit

For Green Lantern, another superhero movie, it’s kind of one that a lot of us forget, but he did star in Green Lantern, and he actually worked really, really super hard for Green Lantern.

He worked out seven days a week, 90 minutes a day, to bulk up for Green Lantern. What’s pretty interesting is he didn’t do the same workout twice. Right. He would never do the same workout twice.

I’m not sure the exact reasoning behind that, but I’m sure it has to do with muscle confusion and just kind of tricking your body up a bit so that nothing grows stagnant, so that you don’t get used to the workout. Right.

I think that’s the basic idea behind it, so that it helps you increase strength, it helps you increase size, so on, so forth.

Deadpool, same thing. He focused. He worked really, really hard. Focused on nutrition, as well. Took in a lot of protein, a lot of protein, lots of protein.

But also, he took in carbs, too. At least from some sources, they say that he doesn’t believe in the no-carb diet.

He believes that carbs keep you happy, they keep you sane, they give you more energy when you work out, and a lot of that is true. A lot of it is true, for sure.

For the past 15 years or so, he’s been in overall really good shape. The cool thing about Ryan Reynolds is that there’s a lot of celebrities who kind of transform their bodies depending on the role.

They’ll lose a lot of mass, put it back on, lose a lot of mass, put it back on. I guess for the films that Ryan Reynolds has been a part of, what’s nice is, he’s been able to kind of just keep that same overall body structure.

Accountability, Fun, and Sleep

His personal trainer that he’s worked with for a long time says that for a lot of his action films like Deadpool and Green Lantern, he’ll be about 200 pounds, at about 8% body fat.

And then for some of his other films, like comedy films, romance films, things like that, he’ll be about 180 pounds, but like 11% body fat, which is still not that bad at all.

Another thing that he does implement, too, is he likes to have fun with his workouts.

Just in a lot of his daily life, his daily activity, he tries to move around a lot, tries to just be active in general, just to do something to keep himself relatively fit and away from a sedentary lifestyle.

I think I alluded to this before, but he’s worked with the same trainer for a long, long time. I think the same trainer since Blade Trinity years ago.

I think that that’s kind of key, too, getting a personal trainer, working with them, sticking with a personal trainer, making sure to build that relationship.

Because, I think that accountability and that relationship with someone who’s going to guide you, is going to help you every single step of the way, is the key for a lot of people, and at least for Ryan Reynolds. It’s really helped him.

And then, last but not least, the last bullet point I’ll cover is sleep.

This is something that Ryan Reynolds’ trainer preaches in that, yes, it’s about working hard. It’s about hitting the gym hard. It’s about having a good diet.

But, there’s all these other things that do come into play, like just your level of stress and the amount of sleep you get.

His trainer recommends for everybody who’s training for a movie role or training to get a real good body is to get at least seven hours of sleep a night. Okay.

I know a lot of conventional wisdom says eight hours of sleep, I mean, is even better, of course, but, basically, his trainer says at least seven hours of sleep at night.

It allows your body to heal. It allows your body to burn calories when you’re actually sleeping. It allows your natural hormone production in your body, which is definitely huge.

Conclusion

Hopefully, this video helped. I don’t know, I was kind of all over the place with Ryan Reynolds and just his methods.

But, essentially, for the past 15 years, he’s developed a lot of these good habits, and a good work ethic, and good diet, so on, so forth, that keeps him healthy.

Hopefully, this helped, guys. Let me know if you have any questions at all. Let me know your thoughts in the comment section below.

I love hearing from you guys. I love interacting with you guys. Even if you don’t have questions, please leave a comment. Say “hi” to me. I’ll say “hi” back. I love your comments.
